New President for the Shipping Division
Rune Birkeland (61) takes over as President and CEO for the shipping division of Grieg Star February 1st, after Tom Rasmussen’s retirement the day before.
It has been clear for some time that Birkeland would take over for Rasmussen, and he has spent the last months familiarising himself with the company and organisation.
– Rune has the experience, know how and drive needed to continue the development of Grieg Star. I am very excited about him accepting the position as President for the shipping division. We are in a decisive phase in the history of our business, and it is reassuring to have him as a part of the team, Grieg Star CEO Camilla Grieg says.
Rune Birkeland is educated at the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy, has a degree in Business administration from the Norwegian School of Business Administration and Economics and has finished the Executive Management Program at INSEAD, France.
After a short naval career as Commanding Officer and Division Commander in the Royal Norwegian Navy, Rune has held several positions in Norwegian business, including project manager in Wilhelmsen Underwater Engineering, Deputy Managing Director in the safety, emergency response and crisis management expert company Nutec and as head of Wilson Eurocarriers. He joined Grieg Logistics as CEO in 2005.
– I really look forward to work with the great people at Grieg Star, with our customers and suppliers. To succeed you need to have really good people around you, and I feel we have that, Birkeland says.
When the Joint Venture of Grieg Star and Gearbulk, G2 Ocean, is established, Rune Birkeland will join as CEO of G2 Ocean.
